Chapter Eight

Rory took in the release of tension in Sheridan’s shoulders, and he knew he’d made the right choice.

It seems my mate has a tough time sitting around while another does something.

He figured that had everything to do with living with Spencer.

Pulling out the chicken pizza box, Rory handed it to Sheridan. “There’s scissors in the drawer to the right of the sink. Or feel free to use a knife from the block over there.”

Rory pointed. Then he headed into the mud-room to retrieve a cookie sheet. The right wall of the space was covered in shelves and cubbies filled with all sorts of items from cooking to baking to cleaning. Everything that wasn’t re-sealable was stored in a zipper bag or canister.

After choosing a cookie sheet and a canister of olive oil baking spray, Rory returned to the kitchen. He held the sheet over the sink, then sprayed it. Leaving it on the counter, he returned the spray to its place on the shelf.

Seeing that Sheridan had finished opening the pizza, Rory pulled both the fries and the French bread pizzas out of the freezer. He handed the box that contained the two pizzas to Sheridan, then took the scissors he’d left on the counter. With a few quick snips, Rory had the bag open, so he handed the shears back to a waiting Sheridan.

Rory held up the bag. “Do ye want me to measure out a few servings?” He winked. “Or should I just cook them all?”

Sheridan moaned softly as he licked his lips. His stomach growled once more. Still, he shook his head as he looked at the food on the counter, ready to go into the oven.

“You really think we’ll be able to eat it all?”

Chuckling, Rory nodded. “Oh yeah.” After knocking his shoulder lightly against his mate’s, he reminded, “Shifters have huge appetites.”

“Oh, right.” Sheridan nodded, then shrugged. “Okay. All of it sounds great.”

Rory was more than on board with that. He knew that, even though the bag said it contained eight servings, he could easily consume two-thirds of it on his own. Coupled with the two types of pizza, he figured their meal would be just about the right size—seeing as he wasn’t starving or anything.

“So, how long did the different boxes say for cooking time?” Rory asked as he dumped the entire contents of the bag onto the tray. They almost fell over the sides, but he quickly caught them. Looking at the back, Rory told Sheridan, “This says twelve to fifteen minutes.”

“The chicken pizza is supposed to be cooked for twenty,” Sheridan told him. Then he frowned as he looked at the other box. “These other ones need eighteen.”

“Okay.” Rory grabbed the cardboard the chicken pizza rested on and turned around. He opened the oven and peered at the racks. “Hmm. Hold this.”

Sheridan obeyed, taking the pizza.

Rory quickly snagged a couple of oven mitts from a nearby drawer, pulling them on. Then he adjusted the three racks. After removing the gloves, he placed the chicken pizza on the lowest shelf.
